TRUTHS TO LIVE BY

A COLLECTION OF THE GREATEST TRUTHS

I HAVE DISCOVERED SO FAR

What truths do you live by?

What truths do you seek?

What truths will you share?

TRUTHS FOR LIFE, LIBERTY, AND THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

Rights come from God and good government’s sole responsibility is to preserve and protect these rights for the people. If we don’t have the right to do something than neither does a government. The truths that follow explore finding the right balance between anarchy on one side and tyranny on the other.

ANIMALS MUST BE KEPT ON A LEASH

JFK when speaking to a group of Nobel Prize winners stated, “I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered together at the White House — with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.” Jefferson was a truth seeker his whole life and this design is based around the following truth he stated. “It would be a dangerous delusion were a confidence in the [leaders] of our choice to silence our fears for the safety of our rights… bind [them] down from mischief by the chains of the Constitution.” I believe if we spent more time holding the leaders of our own political party accountable to constitutional principles we would find greater unity and improved leadership for all Americans.

ANCIENT SOCIALIST PROVERB

This is my twist on two of my favorite truths. The wisdom to teach people to fish instead of handing out fish; Plus Margret Thatcher’s warning that ‘’the trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.” I want abundance for the human family. Democratic socialism cares about equality but its methods never create abundance. People want to be equally prosperous not equally poor. I believe a focus on supply-side free market economics and a commitment to “love our neighbors as ourselves” will create abundance and equality.

ONLY 4 WAYS TO SPEND $

Milton Friedman was my first mentor on free market economics. Growing up in relative poverty I have always been curious about how people can escape from economic hardship. Milton Friedman taught me many true principles in his books and his tv series Free To Choose about how people have and could escape poverty. He also taught about mistakes that people and government leaders make that lead to poverty. The truth that there are only 4 ways to spend money gives us a lesson about how to travel away from poverty and not towards it.

TYRANNY, LIKE HELL IS NOT EASILY CONQUERED

Thomas Paine’s words are as inspiring and truth filled today as they were during the uncertain early days of the American revolutionary war. There are two phrases that speak to me most in this statement. The first is “tyranny like hell is not easily conquered.” I see both as fights for our freedoms and right to self-government. The fight against tyranny is a political one and fought where we live and the fight with hell is primarily waged within us for the control of our souls. The second phrase is “what we obtain too cheap, we esteem too lightly; it is dearness only that gives everything its value.” I know this to be true in my life. I worked harder for the education I paid for than for the earlier education I got for free. Having skin in the game helps us to reach higher and makes our victories sweeter, especially when they are hard won.

Truths To Live By Created by Robert McCauley

Who am I? Like the rest of you I am lots of things. A husband, father, son, grandson, follower of Jesus Christ, chemical engineer, a sinner, a saint, and a very curious seeker of truth. My sincere desire in this life is to do good in the world and if possible leave it better than how I found it. I believe in people and the great things we do together and could do together if we find the ways to unite in meaningful causes. I built this site and my designs to share ideas that I believe hold valuable truths. I will be wrong on some of them but I am not afraid to be wrong, I believe and try to practice the principle of trading up, truth for error, understanding for misunderstanding, and light for darkness. On the Truths To Live By site I will write essays on each truth I have posted. I hope you might find something of value for your life here and if you have truth to share with me or you can see errors in what I have shared please reach out to me. Thank you for spending some of your time here. – Robert McCauley
